Robert Wayne Helms

Robert Wayne helms of Desoto, Missouri born to Norma (Miller) and Marvin helms, passed May 18, 2023. He was a man of many passions in life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman which gave him some of his best memories in life. There were so many weekends at the lake with his best friend Jim. He even made a few trips to Texas to boar hunt coming back with a story once about him and his best friend almost getting ran up a tree by a pig. In his younger years he helped build homes for his family, spent his children’s early lives coaching softball and basketball and soccer even for his step daughter. After his first career in life as a factory worker came to a sudden stop he went back to school and showed his daughters it’s never too late to pursue what you were meant to do in life. That degree allowed him to flourish in what he considered his first real career in life. Helping kids that struggled through life with COMTREA. Starting out in the boys homes he became a mentor and role model for what many wanted to become in later life, then when the houses were closed he became a counselor for those kids that just needed a little help, he would work closely with the schools and their parents to ensure these kids were supported in the best ways possible. Including one family which became family to him and his wife when he medically retired. He loved the life he built with his wife Stephanie on their mini farm, which became home to many critters over the years. He loved fiercely and with a calm his daughters and bonus daughters loved about him. He always had an ear to bend to anyone that needed it, and sound advice, even if you didn’t ask for it.

Robert is survived by his wife, Stephanie; two daughters, Rebecca (Ernest) Shaw of Columbia, MO, Elizabeth Mogenson of O’Fallon, MO; step daughter, Breanna (Daniel) Meyer of Fenton, MO, his nearly adopted daughter, Mollie (Nic) Sherman of Bonne Terre, MO; sister, Patricia (Steve) Parsons of Herculaneum, MO and 8 total children that he considered his grand babies: Evelyn Shaw, Harrison Shaw, Elli Mogenson, along with Liam, Bentley, Noah, Grace Myers and Harper Sherman.
