Robert L. Ekleberry passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, in Farmington, Missouri, at the age of 92. Born September 30, 1932, on the family ranch in Ione, Oregon, to Grace Chandler and Rood L. Ekleberry, Robert’s life was a testament to hard work, unwavering dedication, and a playful spirit.
Bob proudly served his country as a Navy veteran, showcasing his exceptional mechanical aptitude as an aircraft mechanic. His career highlights included working on Air Force One during the Kennedy administration and servicing King Hussein's helicopters in Jordan, where he fondly recalled conversations with the King while the young Prince Hussein played nearby. His travels also took him to Ascension Island and the ancient city of Petra. A man of action, he was known for his unwavering commitment to his work; he rarely missed a day, famously taking only one sick day—humoring his then teenage daughters’ infatuation with their favorite boy band.
His mechanical prowess was legendary; he could fix virtually anything. Always tinkering, he spent countless hours immersed in projects, a testament to his inquisitive nature and practical skills. His passions extended beyond mechanics. He was a skilled motorcycle racer, winning several off-road trophies in his younger years, and a devoted enthusiast of Motor Week. He owned several exotic cars over the years, possessed the remarkable ability to identify nearly any vehicle by its engine sound alone, and could diagnose mechanical problems with uncanny accuracy. His love of life extended to simple pleasures: Blue Bell ice cream, jelly beans, peanut brittle, pinto beans, and anything generously slathered with ketchup. His signature farewell, "keep it between the fence posts," perfectly captured his practical and grounded nature.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Laura Ekleberry of Blackwell, Missouri; his grandchildren, Robert and Amber Ekleberry of Dallas, Texas; Jacob Ekleberry of St. Louis, Missouri; Colby Ekleberry of Farmington, Missouri; Tadan Ekleberry of Jefferson City, Missouri; and Hailey Ekleberry of Blackwell, Missouri; and bonus daughter Eva Corral of Rosenberg, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Anna Mae and Mary, brother Jerry, and son Randy.
