John Harvey Bergmann, a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on May 18, 1938, in Fredericktown, Missouri, John lived a life that epitomized mindfulness and care for those around him. His nurturing spirit was felt by his friends and family alike, as he consistently put their needs above his own.
John's passions were manifold. He had a profound love for horses and an appreciation for classic cars, reflecting both his enthusiasm for adventure and history. An avid reader, he devoted much of his time to learning, particularly about the American Civil War. John’s engagement with history was paralleled by his appreciation for the great outdoors, where he often found solace and enjoyment.
A spiritual man, John dedicated himself to reading scripture, embodying the principles he believed in throughout his life. For 62 years and 8 months, he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in both Caledonia and Irondale, contributing to the community and embracing the values instilled by the organization.
John’s proudest accomplishments included being a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Gray, and his son, Christopher Bergmann and wife Veronica. His legacy also lives on through his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Smith, and her daughters, Josie (18) and Elizabeth (10), as well as Tanner and his wife, Vanessa Smith.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys (Ringer) Bergmann, his father, Rudolph Bergmann, his brother, Donald Bergmann, and his best friend and sister, Ethel Wheaton.
His passing leaves a void in the lives of many, marking the end of a life dedicated to family, community, and history. The joyful memories he leaves behind will be treasured by those who loved him.
