George Greenwood

            George Henry Greenwood, known by family and friends as Teddy, was born February 15, 1937 in Akron, Ohio a son to the late Theodore “T.C.” Clarence Greenwood and Hallie M. (Allen) Greenwood. George departed this life Saturday, April 29, 2023 having reached the age of 86 years, 2 months and 14 days.

            On July 9, 1959 George was united in marriage to the late Maureen Margaret (Kelly) Greenwood and they lovingly shared 29 years together. Maureen preceded George in death on September 12, 1988. After the passing of Maureen, George was united in marriage to Janet M. (Hopkins) McDowell on September 2, 1990 and they shared 32 years together.

            Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet; daughters, Carol Deering and husband Tom of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Diane AuBuchon and husband Steve of Bonne Terre, Missouri; sons, Allen Greenwood of Little Rock Arkansas, Mark McDowell of Glenallen, Missouri, Scott McDowell and wife Michelle of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; grandchildren, Reggie (Chelcy) AuBuchon, Ashley (Robert) Arcand, Chase (Natalie) Greenwood, Ian (Svetlana) Deering, Marlana (Logan) McDowell, Lizz (Cody) Schremp, Kurt (Lindsey) McDowell, Kelsey (Garrison) Shields, Paige Greenwood, Abbi Leuckel, Connor (Lexi) McDowell, Gabrielle McDowell; great grandchildren, Cali, Brynlee, Malia, Teddy, Geva, Sam, Evelynn, Elanor, Margot and Avery; In-laws, Michael Kelly of England, Christine Mooney of England, Connie Schmitt and husband Mel of Ozark, Missouri, Sharon Eaton and husband David of Green River, Wyoming, Mike Hopkins and wife Susan of Farmington, Missouri, in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear and special friends.

            In addition to his parents and wife Maureen, George was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Greenwood and great granddaughter, Eastyn AuBuchon.

            George lived life to its fullest and never met a stranger. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1975. During his military career, he worked as a technical sergeant and airplane mechanic traveling to North Africa, England, and many other countries. After the military, he went on to achieve his master’s degree in Counseling in 1987 from Southeast Missouri State University and worked for many years as an appraiser in real estate business. He loved his work and being with people. He had a passion for helping people and was a proud member of the Potosi Elks Lodge #2218. Out of all of the places he traveled, home was his favorite destination. He loved spending quality time with his family, playing poker, visiting friends, and spoiling his grandchildren. His memory will be treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
