Gene Garland

Orvell Eugene Garland know by many as “Gene” was born March 28, 1937 in New Port AR. a son to the late John Garland and Luesinda (Reeves) Garland. Gene departed this life Tuesday July 30, 2019 having reached the age of Eighty-two years, four months and two days.
On March 3, 1962 Gene was united in marriage Francis Ruth (Battreal) Garland, known by all as “Ruth”, and they shared 57 loving years together.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Ruth, one daughter Cheryl Riehl and husband Chris of Overland, MO, one sister Phyliss June Miller and husband G.D. of Jefferson City, MO, one grandchild Cory Riehl, brothers and sisters-in-law, Ann Graves and husband Ross of St. Peters, MO, Doris Walker of Kirkwood, MO, Diane Sexton of Potosi, MO, Darlene Palisch and husband Steve of Old Mines, MO and Jeff Battreal of Old Mines, MO as well as many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Gene was preceded in death by one sister Ellen Caldwell, four brothers, Troy Garland, Roy Garland, Vaughn Garland, Chester Garland, and in-laws Mary and Paul Farrier, Louise Riddle, Rita Lee and Linda Lattimore.
Gene was a family man who loved everyone immensely. Gene enlisted in the United States Air Force July 25, 1956 and proudly served his country until being honorably discharged July 24, 1960. The outdoors brought Gene great joy. He loved to maintain his lawn and fish in the warm summer months. Gene also enjoyed many hunting trips with friends. Gene was a gifted wood worker who could turn an ordinary piece of wood into a beautiful piece of art.
