Epke "Ted"
Banta
Jul 2, 1934 — Aug 16, 2026
Epke “Ted” Banta, Jr. known affectionately as “Ted”, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on July 2, 1934, in Berryman, Missouri, Ted’s remarkable life was marked by dedication to his family, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his community.
From a young age, Ted learned the value of hard work and resilience. He served his country with pride in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959, embodying the principles of service and responsibility. Upon returning home, Ted built a life rooted in family.
Ted was a true steward of the land, embracing his passions as a cattle showman and livestock farmer, in addition to raising horses. His dedication extended beyond farming; he was a talented mechanic for Greyhound Bus Services. No matter what the endeavor, Ted’s work ethic and love for being outdoors set him apart and became a testament to his character.
A devoted and loving family man, Ted cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. His days were often brightened by their laughter and curiosity, and he took great pride in supporting and guiding them. He was united in marriage to Kaye (Jaycox) Banta on September 25, 1975. Together, they shared 44 years of love, partnership, and cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew them.
Ted’s legacy lives on through his beloved family. He is survived by his children, Tabitha Riddle and husband Shane, Epke T. “Teddy” Banta, III. His grandchildren—Wyatt Bust and wife Jaiden, Garrett Randall, and Dylan Randall—brought him immense joy, and he delighted in the company of his great-grandchild, Jagger Bust in addition to many brothers and sisters- in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kaye Banta, parents, Zelma and Epke T. Banta, Sr. and his sisters: Mary Marjorie Thurman and husband Joe, Norma Ruth Nipper, and Lou Ann Whitener and Don. Ted’s memories of them remained a source of comfort and inspiration throughout his life.
Ted was also deeply involved in his community, serving as a charter member of the Potosi Elks Lodge #2218. His dedication to service, sense of camaraderie, and genuine kindness touched countless lives, leaving a lasting mark on those fortunate enough to know him. A hardworking man who loved the outdoors and valued every relationship, Ted’s memory will be held with deep respect and affection by all whose lives he graced.
