James "Jimmy" Benson

October 13, 1960 — February 7, 2019

James “Jimmy” Benson of Potosi departed this life on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at his home surrounded by the care and love of his family and friends. Jimmy was born October 13, 1960 in Bonne Terre, Missouri a son of the late Richard Curtis Benson and Verla Gladine (Isgriggs) Benson. Jimmy was Fifty-eight years, three months and 25 days of age.
Jimmy was united in marriage to Adele Schmerfeld on July 9, 1994 in Potosi.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Adele Benson of Potosi; three daughters, Katie Jane Lovett of Puxico, Bobbi Jo Knight and her husband Thomas of St. Marys and Jessica Edith Benson of Puxico; one son, Merlen Andrew Benson of Potosi; two sisters, Marilyn Gibson of Mineral Point and Marsha Thurmond and her husband Steve of Hopewell; five grandchildren, Anthony, Vivian, Lanie, Sadie and Lydia and by many other dear and special relatives and friends. In addition to his friends, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Edith Longley and a brother, Richard Curtis Benson, Jr.
Jimmy served in the United States Navy. He enlisted on July 13, 1978 and was Honorably Discharged on July 12, 1984. He was attached to the Patrol Squadron Six as an inflight avionics maintenance technician. He received the Good Conduct Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Navy/Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal.
Jimmy enjoyed spending time out side enjoying the many gifts of Mother Nature. He loved to visit with family and friends at any time. He always had time to listen and solve the world’s problems if just between him and a few family and friends. A kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and dear and special friend who will forever be loved and missed.
